Our two semis

When I counted the pendant lights in our home on monday (8… oops!), I completely forgot about our Gubi Semi pendant lights. They hang in my husband's practice.
Actually it's only one real Semi lamp, designed by Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup in 1968, found at a Dutch flea market for a lucky 5€. We thrifted the other one in Copenhagen: it's a vulgar copy with lots of scuffs and dents. It was also a bit bulky for city strolling, but we knew they would make a nice couple :o)

So what do you think? Do you have any classics at home? Would you buy a fake design or do you absolutely want the real deal?

Below is a little video by Gubi on the Semi design. I'm such a sucker for Danish spoken language:

  1. I've been a renter all my adult life. And we've moved more than 7 times in 10 years, so even if I liked the real deal there is no way I would risk it. I call my house “Ikea's palace”. Have a great weekend!

  2. They do look quite similar but I'd rather save up for the real thing. You can't beat great design and quality, can you? :)

    Have a lovely weekend!

    1. Yeah, the knock off is not so bad, but less refined and a little smaller. I definitely prefer the real thing too, their quality and aesthetics last so much longer :o) Enjoy your weekend Chi!

    1. Ja de belijning van de èchte is echt veel mooier. De vorm loopt ook veel vloeiender door in het snoer. Ooit op de kop getikt in de Brabanthallen ;)
