Urban Jungle Bloggers #12

JOELIX.com | Plants in my home office

This month's Urban Jungle Bloggers topic fits my current state of mind pretty well: back to school, plants on the workplace. It's been one busy month, but a very productive one too, here in my home office. Strangely enough I don't have many plants on my desk. Most of them don't like the northern light in our yellow living room plus our cats love nibbling on fresh green leaves a lot. Especially palm tree leaves. I wish I could leave my home-grown palm tree behind my screen, I love the way it looks:

Palm trees create the best tropical shadows that immediately remind me of sunshine and the Mediterranean: that's why I love them so much. Did you know that growing your own palm tree is pretty cool (I think!) and only requires lots of patience? Mine is about 4-5 years old, but grows happily all by itself. If you like to learn how it works: I made a little infographic with instructions a while ago, you can find it here.

On my little side desk I created a small composition with succulents and cacti from around the house.

See that tall cactus plant on the left? Since June he grew so much, I wonder when he'll fall down, but sofar he stays perfectly green and balanced.

And here's one of the things that's kept me busy: our brand new Urban Jungle Bloggers website! We are launching it today, so take a look! We hope you'll like it 🙂

  1. Yeah!! Happy new Urban Jungle Bloggers post and a very happy new website to us:-) Oh and I love your green home office with all the injections of yellow. So bright and inviting, I can imagine working there is even fun!!

  2. Hi Judith,
your workspace looks a great place where to work actually. Beyond the beautiful palm and cacti, I love the inspiration wall on the side.
September has been busy and productive around here too, that's why i am late with my UJB post this months. Hope to catch up soon.
    take care
    xxx

    1. Nice you spotted my wall with inspiration, Stefania. Mostly beautiful business cards and cards that I really like. Looking forward to seeing what your office looks like. But first: weekend! Hope you'll have a relaxing one after all the busy trips & work. xx

  3. Lovely lovely workspace and so….Judith. The yellow accents are perfect. I think we should start betting about how tall that cactus will get (before it tips over). Love the UJB series so much!

    1. I bet he'll hold on until spring (at least). You? Thank you for participating as well, Jill! Isn't it lovely how everyone shares their personal workspaces, that look so much like themselves? Hope you're having a wonderful weekend, with great music!!!

  4. That palm tree is fab! And I love that elevated plant table on your desk. It really makes the plants stand out.
Congratulations on the new website (I just added the link to my UJB post), it looks so good! Very proud to be part of the ever growing UJB gang ;)
    xx

    1. Thank you Yvonne! Very happy you are part of our family! And thanks for linking to our new website! I love the palm tree too, but it's back in the greenhouse, Wally nibbled on it the entire time :( Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. Congratulations guys on celebrating your 1st year and on the fab website. Going from strength to strength.

You know you are the cacti and succulent queen:-)
Your little arrangement here is gorgeous.

I hope my little cacti babys grow… I'm watching them.

Looking forward to seeing you in October. x

    1. Thanks Tina for all the support! We're so happy to have so many loyal green members with us, like you! I'm sure the baby succulents will grow and if not I'll send you more until it works out ;) Wish you a very relaxing weekend and see you in a few weeks!

  6. Beautiful Maintenance-Free Plants for Your Space. Cactus and succulents are very resilient and beautiful plants that require very little maintenance compared to other plants.
I love new website – thank you for sharing.

    1. Thanks Io! Very happy you like the new website :) And you're right, I love cactus and succulents so much because they're fairly easy to grow and have the most gorgeous, yet simple, shapes. Have a great weekend!

  7. The palm looks great indeed! The level on your desk is the perfect place to show off your plants and that flat green planter with different succulents is adorable Judith. I too have little places in my home that plants don't really like but I REALLY like having them there, so I tend to place them there for a couple of weeks and as soon as I see them changing colour or looking sad, I return them.. Probably not so good for the plant but good for me. Congratulations on the site, it looks fantastic and makes it so easy to go find fellow UJB! Mel x

    1. Thanks for the kind words about our website, Mel! That's a nice tip: change the location of your plants every once in a while. We too have lots of places at home where it's too dark for plants so I have to change plants quite often (although I forget about it too… oops!). Loved your contribution, Mel!

  8. I love your workspace with your inspiration board – and that super tall cactus! but have to go now and check out the urban jungle bloggers website, can't wait!

  9. That Palm Tree is great, but I absolutely LOVE that you have a tray dedicated to your cacti and succulents. That is just fab and really livens up your desk. So wonderful. You have a great workshpace Judith. xD

    1. Thank you Doris! Means a lot coming from you! Hope you are well. Very nice post by the way about different ways to use a conservatory. Pinned it to our UJB board, of course ;)

    1. The tall one on the left is a paddle leaf cactus. Usually their leaves are little bit rounder, but sometimes they just grow straight to the sun ;) What does yours look like?
