Urban Jungle Bloggers #11 + giveaway!

JOELIX.com | Urban Jungle Bloggers about watering your plants + giveaway!

Let me present to you my little sister! We got to spend some time together this week and she was happy to model for this month's Urban Jungle Bloggers Edition about watering your plants. We had quite some fun playing around with greens and watering cans in the garden 😉

Actually I don't have a very precise schedule with watering my plants. It's all rather untuitive and I've over-watered and drown more than a few plants. Sometimes I forget one and it completely dries out. During hot weeks (like recent summer weeks) and when my jungle is growing fast, I tour the greenhouse at least once or twice a week. I use this big watering can and sprinkle a few cans of water around, like this:

For the plants in our apartment, I use this Verso Diverso pourer on a, Evian glass bottle. It looks better and waters more precisely. To be honest I take much better care of the plants here, because I see them every day. My Euphorbia for example recently woke up from hibernation and is growing new tips all the time. He seems to respond well to a daily sip of water, so that's what I give him.

Sometimes when I'm not quite sure, I just Google for caring instructions. Really there are so many green tips & tricks all around. And if your aloë vera gets the right amount of light and water, he grows some new babies and looks very happy:

Seriously, I don't believe a black thumb exists. Caring for plants is not that hard, especially if you choose regular succulents or cactus plants. But if you need some help, there is this wireless sensor called the Parrot Flower Power. It tracks soil moisture, sunlight, ions in the ground and temperature. This tool reminds you to water your plant, add fertilizer or place it in a different spot. It connects with an app on your smartphone, like a helpful gardening assistant. Really, there is no excuse for not having thriving greens in your home!

And the cool thing is, Parrot and myself are giving you the opportunity to win your own gardening assistant! To win a Parrot Flower Power:

  1. OMG, Judith, you and your sister look so much alike!!! So lovely!! Wonderful post as usual and the Parrot tip is precious – will definitely try it myself too!

    1. Hihi yes, we really are sisters ;) The strangest thing is that we even say exactly the same things and have the same dull humor too, but that's what siblings are for, right. The Parrot is fun and useful, I've put you up for the giveaway. Fingers crossed!

  2. I love gardening but admit to killing some plants by under/over watering. I live in India and right now, the heavy monsoons are taking care of the plants on our verandah. I won't have to water them probably until September, unless there is a dry patch. Summer is the hardest and the distance from our sink to the plants (it is a large old house!) makes me lazy sometimes. A tool like Parrot would work wonderfully to remind me to keep my plants alive :)

Following you on Instagram. I'm @missfrangipani

  3. Looks like you and your sister had so much fun!
The Verso Diverso pourer seems so handy and great for putting beautiful bottles to use. Unfortunately they don’t make them in black ;)
Now, Parrot looks very interesting, I hadn’t heard of it yet. As my husband is addicted to apps, it might even get him involved in caring for our plants (that’ll be the day).
I just visited their website: that plant library is impressive! Love it. Parrot also comes in a beautiful shade of green… AND it’s also for sale at the Apple store? Bookmarked.
Of course I’m joining the giveaway! I already follow you on Instagram and here’s my worst plant disaster: I killed a cactus. More than once. The shame… ;)

    1. Hahahaha I think I've killed a few cactus plants too. Very strange, but it happens, right? I've entered you for the giveaway, so fingers crossed so that your husband will become involved in the greens soon too ;) And yes, there are A LOT of plants in their database, even simple cactus plants * wink wink * Have a great weekend, Yvonne!

  4. Your sis is so cute! You guys look just alike! I love your humble approach to gardening and caring for your plants, Judith. It is refreshing to read :) How cool is the Parrot idea? I love it….have a good day and happy birthday week! xoxo

    1. Merci Jocelyn! When we were kids people always asked if we were twins. They don't do that anymore, but we surely have some traits in common ;) Even though we don't see each other very often, when we do, we say the same things. And of course have the same sense of humor. That's what sisters are for, right?
I've entered you for the Parrot giveaway, so fingers crossed. Have a wonderful weekend with lots of hugs (and ice cream hihi). bises!

  5. Wow! You and your sister could be twins:-) how nice to meet her here….

Now I learned 2 new tricks. Igor's shoelace tip and your Parrot one. Very cool and very helpful. Thank you x

    1. Hihi that's exactly what people used to say all the time. We're so much alike, yet very different. Anyway, I've entered you for the giveaway, of course, so fingers crossed! Have a wonderful August month, Tina! Big 50 coming up, yohoohh!
